How Old Does My Child Need To Be To Begin Martial Arts?
This is a question that I most frequently hear by parents interested in getting their child off to an excellent start in education and in life skills development.
Martial arts schools will vary in the age range that they will accept a student. Most like their students to be around seven years of age. Their can be a variety of reasons for this. Some instructors legitimately feel that seven years of age is best because there is better comprehension of information with the child. Some instructors though simply don’t want to be bothered by smaller children who are more challenging to deal with and who will not understand the adult curriculum.
Functional Karate Does Not Always Look Like Classical Karate!

The reason for this is that there is nice to look at, and then there is functional. A fellow teaches, or learns a martial art, and the instructor gives him something that looks good. Once one starts applying real world potentials to the technique, however, the technique must sometimes change to work.
A Real Reason for the Development of Classical Karate!

The fact of the matter, however, is that Karate is not built for blocking and striking. Yes, there are blocks in the art of Karate, and it can be adapted to such a module, but it was not designed for blocking except by the way.
